How to Deal With People who are Wrong
Everyone thinks they are right… here is our guide to empathizing, understanding, and ultimately communicating for progress
A few ways that woke folks can better communicate with those they consider to be "wrong" or holding differing views:
Listen actively: It's important to truly hear and understand the other person's perspective, even if you disagree with it. Avoid interrupting or dismissing their views without first trying to understand them.
Speak from your own experience: Share your own experiences and perspectives, but avoid speaking for others.
Avoid using divisive language: Avoid using labels or language that can be perceived as derogatory or divisive.
Practice empathy: Try to understand the other person's point of view and where they may be coming from.
Use facts and evidence: Use facts and evidence to support your arguments and be willing to consider new information that may challenge your own beliefs.
Avoid personal attacks: Stay focused on the issue at hand and avoid making personal attacks or ad hominem arguments.
Be open to feedback: Be willing to listen to and consider feedback or criticism, and be willing to adjust your own views and communication style if necessary.
Be respectful and kind: Communication is most effective when it's done respectfully, with a tone of kindness and understanding.
It's important to remember that change is a process, and it's unlikely that anyone will change their beliefs overnight. It's important to maintain a respectful and open dialogue, and to be patient in the process.
